Do I need an ETIAS?

As days and months go by, we are closer and closer to the announcement of the new entry requirement to Schengen space. It is imperative that we get familiar with the process and make sure we know who is required to apply before traveling.
There are particular cases when an ETIAS – SEIAV may or may not be needed to cross the borders of the Schengen area. In this article, we address the majority of them:
ETIAS REQUIRED:
- Citizens of a country whose nationals are not required to have a visa for a short-term stay in any of the countries of the Schengen area.
- Citizen of a visa-exempt country wanting to study in Europe for a maximum of 90 days.
- You do not have a residence permit/card/document issued by any of the European countries requiring ETIAS.
- You are not an EU national.
- Citizen of a visa-exempt country wanting to work in Europe, maximum of 90 days.
- Refugees with travel documents from a visa-exempt country.
- Stateless persons with a travel document from a visa-exempt country.
ETIAS NOT REQUIRED:
- Nationals of non-visa exempt countries.
- National of a European country requiring ETIAS.
- National of the UK beneficiary of the Withdrawal Agreement.
- Stateless person, refugee, or person with no nationality of any country that already resides in any required ETIAS country.
- Citizens of Andorra, San Marino, Monaco, The Holy Sea (Vatican City State), or Ireland.
- A holder of a residence permit or residence card issued by ETIAS requiring country.
- Holder of a Uniform Schengen visa.
- Holder of national long-stay visa.
- A member of the armed forces traveling on NATO or Partnership for Peace business.
- A civilian air or sea crew member on duty. Crew or member of an emergency or rescue mission in the event of a disaster or an accident.
British citizens who want to live in the EU don’t need a visa to stay in an EU country if their leisure or work is not more than 90 days in a given 180-day period covered by the ETIAS authorization. Longer than that a visa will be needed.
Most EU countries have multiple visa types, and the conditions and procedures differ for each. In some countries, it is necessary to be sponsored by an employer to be able to get the right to stay, while others will allow you to have a temporary visa to find work. Some EU countries have a points-based system for skilled migrants.
Please check the website of the national authorities for more information on the conditions that apply in your case.
