Update on EES system

The European Union’s Directorate General for Migration and Home Affairs has announced that the start date of the EES system will be October 2025.

The coordination in the implementation of EES among 30 countries is not being easy, there are many systems at the same time and it must work simultaneously in all of them without fissures or errors. These are the systems it integrates:

SIS: Schengen Information System

VIS: Visa Information System

EURODAC: Fingerprint database used for the control of asylum applications and irregular migration.

ETIAS: Pre-authorization system for visa-exempt travelers that will conduct background checks prior to entry into the EU.

INTERPOL and national databases: Allows matching of stolen documents and security background checks.

Automated border control systems: Integration with electronic gates and self-service kiosks at airports and land border crossings for biometric registration and document scanning.

There are only 5 months left before the way we travel to Europe changes for good.
